Okay, faithful servant of GOD Most High.
Just as the Holy One promised…
Here's how you put off the old nature…
And put on the shiny new nature.
Clean hands and a pure heart.
So to walk each day in the joy of liberty, purity and holiness.
Plus consistently…
Trample under foot ALL scorpions and snakes of temptation, sin and guilt… (plus every demonic horde sent against you).
Therefore...
If how to put off the old nature and put on the new nature ever confused you then what follows will be a happy relief.
Especially if you wish to KNOW you are TRULY free from the torment of deeply rooted habitual cycles of sin.
So to start…
Let's look at two types of bull in the scripture.
One is a shor.
One a rem.
And both are very interesting.
The first bull is the entrance to your victory. The second is the POWER, certainty and fierce guardian of your victory.
That is after you enter, claim and possess it for your life.
Of course, claiming is up to you. You don't have to.
So.
The Shor: שור
The O.T. firstborn bull set apart for sacrifice.
Moses speaks of Joseph (see also Ephraim/Manasseh)...
“The firstborn of his shor (שור) is his (Joseph’s) majesty; and the horns of a rem are his horns.
(Deuteronomy 33:17a)
Firstborn bull. Holy. Destined for sacrificial slaughter.
As per Mitchell…
“The ox is the sign of Joseph and sacrifice.
No Israelite with the least acquaintance with the scriptures or the sacrificial cult could fail to understand the bloody implications of being born the ‘firstborn of a shor.’*
Next look at...
The Rem: רְאֵם
What do you see?
Moses describing Joseph again in the second part of Deuteronomy 33: 17 as a rem...
"The firstborn of his shor (שור) is his (Joseph’s) majesty; and the horns of a rem (רְאֵם) are his horns.
With them he shall gore the peoples, all as one, even to the ends of the earth."
Deuteronomy 33: 17b
So he.
The rem, is a freeborn wild ox, yet much more…
A ferocious beast. Ruler to 'the ends of the earth.'
Standing at least two metres high at the shoulder. Sharp horns reach up three metres high. Very high. Very muscular.
Strong.
Julius Caesar ran into him too...
“Only a little smaller than elephants, and have the appearance, colour and shape of a great bull. Their strength is very great and also their speed…
They cannot be tamed.” (Gallic War, VI.28)
GOD agrees with Caesar…
“Is the wild ox willing to serve you?… Can you bind him in the furrow with ropes, or will he harrow the valleys after you?”
[Implication: Only a fool would try].
Job 39:9,10. ESV
So here’s the thing...
With huge sharp horns, this non mythical beast was completely untameable. King of all he surveyed. Afraid of none.
Fiercely FREE.
And so,
Following this Biblical ‘Rem’ motif in Joseph from Genesis... which also reveals other aspects in the person of Joshua right on up into Revelation, we see something spectacular emerges…
The firstborn bull (Shor) destined to sacrifice... somehow becomes mysteriously transformed into a mighty, warlike Rem.
As per the motif in Joshua, one who even stops the sun to continue war.*
Then Enoch pulls us deeper into the mystery...
“And I saw that a white bull was born, with large horns, and all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air feared him* and made petition to him all the time.
And I saw till all their generations were transformed, and they all became great white bulls; and the firstborn among them became an an aurochs [oryx] (the aurochs was a great beast and had great black horns on it’s head);
And the LORD of the sheep rejoiced over them and over all the oxen.”
1 Enoch 90: 37-38
So who is this fearsome wild oryx.
This Rem high over all?
He is a type. A picture. A prophecy...
Of Jesus.
Far fetched?
Perhaps...
Yet after pondering Mitchell a bit more,
The comparison he makes is very clear. (Undeniable, IMHO that is :)
We see...
The shor, sacrificed. Arises in glory to conquering ruler.
Thus...
Joseph: Sacrificial. In the dungeon (death, hades).
Raised to power over all (resurrection).
Then later,
The rem motif appears once more,
In the man Joshua... (coincidentally)...
Joshua = Yeshua? ישוע
Absolutely...
Joshua/Yeshua are the same name as Jesus. (Jesus is the latin form of the Greek name for the Hebrew Joshua/Yeshua).
So as a type of Jesus, Joshua slays the giants and conquers Canaan for Israel. Holy. Pure. Mighty in war.
None could withstand Joshua. Heck he even stopped the sun!*
Pretty 'Rem' eh ;)
Hmmm, who else held sway over the elements I wonder?*
A warrior type of our conquering Christ.
Rem my friend.
Think...
REM!
Okay, now that's firmly under our belt, we are almost ready to look at the old 'slave' nature versus your new 'free-born' nature.
The motif.
Picture.
Type.
Is ALWAYS the same in scripture...
From...
Chains to freedom.
Failure to success.
Weak to strong.
Slave to King.
Death to life.
Exactly as our Mighty Rem destined we should be... just like Him.*
Yet many Christians never experience the 'Rem life' of the conquerer.
Why?
Despite the blood Jesus shed to make it so...
They are still trampled underfoot by sin. Held fast by an evil tyrant overlord who uses their sins to bind and torment them still (even though he has no legal right over them any more).
And so...
The wonderful, holy, ferocious 'Rem' life of victory always seems to evade them. The very life the Apostle Paul reveals is our lot as conquerers too... (if we'd only believe the Word of GOD).
See Paul...
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No,
In all these things WE ARE MORE than conquerors through him who loved us."
Romans 8:36-37 ESV
And there it is again...
Our glorious 'overcomer' (old to new - death to life - failure to success - shame to honour) motif studded through scripture suddenly soars into clarity before our eyes.
Or said simply,
The transformation of the saint... no matter what.
However,
Many believers are still snared in such sins.
Yet,
God is no liar.
Victory over personal sin is 100% available for any believer.
Many saints experiences through the centuries agree with John's declaration of such freedom below...
"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."
1 John 3:9 KJV
Powerful eh?
Yet here's the big secret to possessing it all (and where struggling Christians miss it)...
When John says 'He cannot sin' he really means it. The believer can't sin.
Yet, yet, yet...
The diamond he's hiding from the careless reader is this… here he is NOT talking about the human being alone...
No.
Instead...
John is talking about the NEW NATURE!
The new nature we've been gifted which CANNOT sin :)
And...
Get this...
This nature just like Christ. It does not, it cannot sin.
So to finish up.
Dare I say the overcomers that prove this victorious way John offers are...
'Rem' type believers?
Yup. 100%.
Remember though...
Jesus our holy, perfect, firstborn SHOR שור died in our place. *
Perfect. Holy. Humble.
He dies for us.
Then arises as our Mighty REM: רְאֵם
And He wants to share this same power with you right now.
Yet.
Without learning how to put off the old nature and how to put on the new you can never be a rem. Without fully grasping this… it's simply impossible.
“We know that our old natures were crucified with him... so that our sin-laden bodies might be rendered powerless and we might no longer be slaves to sin.
For the person who has died has been freed from sin.”
Romans 6 v 6-7 (ISV).
Thankfully, here is how to do exactly that...
I promise you dear one...
There is no other way to win over sin. And this foundation is essential to successfully engage and defeat the enemy in spiritual warfare.
None.
Step up saint.
Jesus is looking for warriors.
Those to rule with him no in His majestic authority.
See for yourself...
"He who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, I will give him power over the nations, and he (you dear saint!) shall rule them with a rod of iron... even as I myself have received power from my Father;
And I will give him the morning star. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
Revelation 2:26-28 RSV
What a present we have. What a future!
As I said, pretty dang REM eh :)
Blessings
Dave.
PS Really enjoying David Mitchells book - Messiah Ben Joseph. A fellow Scot too ;)

*Joshua commands the elements...
"At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel,
"Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon." And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.
Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day."
Joshua 10:13 ESV
*Jesus (Yeshua) commands the elements...
"And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."
Mark 4:37-39 ESV.
*Enoch 90:37 - I submit in v 37 “All the birds of the air [who] feared him” are the demons.
* We are promised, we will be like Jesus!
“When he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
1 John 3:2 RSV
