Hi overcomer,
Less is absolutely more.
For example, take diamonds. They are small.
And all the mountain of other ‘stuff’ surrounding them…
Is simply not needed. In fact it hides them. We’d never see their brilliance if too much stuff clutters them.
So along similar lines…
“Simple, simple, simplicity!”
Is what my wife and I have had ringing in our spirits this entire year.
Or put another way…
What is the pure essence of life?
More precisely still…
What do you really need?
To feel life itself?
Well,
Here is a truth rarely considered in Church now.
GOD was always…
With someone.
He was never alone.*
Never.
That’s because…
No one created Him. He always was. Thus He was always with Jesus (John 1:1). Always with the Holy Spirit.
And because He has no beginning or end that simple truth reveals to us this…
To enter REAL LIFE, do not stay alone.
God is not alone. Never was. And He will never be alone forever either.
Jesus was never alone was He? Neither when He walked with the disciples. Nor before He came to earth. Nor when He was with our Father before creation.
No. GOD is never alone.
Yes…
GOD could have revealed Himself as a single being.
Yet that would have been impossible.
Because He is not just a ‘single being’.
And He NEVER was.
Mysterious perhaps, yet 1 Timothy 3:16 is true…
He is GOD the Father. God the Son. And God the Holy Spirit.
Three in One.
So what does this all mean overcomer to you and I?
Simple.
By observing the life of eternal GOD. In all it’s simplicity even before creation through to the resurrection and beyond…
His perfect life. Perfect friendship. Perfect love, harmony and unity.
Means this essential…
For LIFE—have friends.
How many?
Well why not keep it simple (like Jesus did with James, Peter and John).
Have…
Three.
Good ones that is.
“There are friends who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Proverbs 18:24 RSV.
I pray the Holy Spirit give you friends who know you better than yourself.
And love you anyway ;)
Finally as for GOD…
He chooses His close friends carefully too.
Abraham is one of his dearest…
You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
James 2:22-24 ESV
He chose Enoch to come very close and they became inseparable (Genesis 5:24)
So from all this…
We see that if GOD Himself has friends, shouldn’t we have and value them too?
“The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David,
And Jonathan loved him as his own soul.”
1 Samuel 18:1 ESV
May the LORD give you such a friend.
And be to you a friend too.
Bless you.
Dave.
*God was never alone…
Except for one horrific day.
The day His Father left him hanging on a cross.
To make you and I a friend of GOD.
Friendship is life.
“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:46 ESV
