Jesus yearns you do one thing.
And as you do it the best ever daily 'To Do' List will open to you.
Why?
Because there’s only ONE task in it!
Okay,
What exactly does Jesus ask us to do?
Here you go...
"But seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you."
Matthew 6:33 KJV
Hmmm…
Not so fast brave disciple.
It's easy to miss entirely what is going on here.
Questions arise...
Question 1: Where do we actually find the actual 'Kingdom of GOD'?
How can we find something when it is invisible?
How do we know when we've got hold of it?
(All I ever heard over the years was vague, waffling answers to these things talking mainly about 'The rule and authority of the reign of Christ" in the beievers life etc.
And yes, while this authority aspect is all true...
I always felt something far deeper was being missed here. Something profound. Even life changing).
Question 2: Secondly, why do we have to do it 'first'?
What's so important that Jesus puts it top of His 'To Do' list for us?
Question 3: What's the 'Principle of Divine Acceleration' which results if we put it into motion every day?
Good questions dear saint :)
Let's break this open...
Answer 1. This is the biggie.
So.
Jesus sends us off on a quest to seek the Kingdom of God.
Yet with hardly a clue for us to find it easily.
Thankfully,
A careful search of the scriptures gives us light. And the Apostle Paul boldly tells the COMPLETE answer...
"For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit"
Romans 14:17 RSV
Aha!
Beaming light at last,
There it is in all its blazing glory!
"The kingdom of God... is righteousness, peace and JOY... IN THE HOLY SPIRIT"
So finally,
We know what the kingdom is.
It's not some vague invisible 'country' somehow with borders we can't see, hear or touch.
No.
It's tangible, discernable, touchable to us now.
Inside us :)
Suddenly Jesus's other enigmatic statement makes sense too...
“The Kingdom of God is within you.”
Luke 17:21 KJV.
To recap, we know...
a) Where it is - inside us.
b) What it is - an inner state of being and happy relationship of JOY with God.
And one which can ONLY operate within us as we cooperate INTERNALLY with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of Truth who Jesus said would live... IN US. (John 14:17)
Which means,
Our ONLY task of today (and every day) is this...
Seek an INNER STATE OF BEING.
In,
Righteousness.
Peace.
JOY.
(All in the sweet Spirit of GOD).
A state of being which fills us with a deep, sense of peace (The Hebrew word 'Shalom' goes deeper still = meaning wholeness) of 'RIGHTNESS' with God (before we do anything else at the beginning of our day).
Entering a place or state within our own hearts where all BECOMES rest before our Father in the Holy Spirit, steadfastly looking to Jesus.
It's essential to let the Spirit of Jesus lead us to get it.
Paul says clearly...
"If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ."
Romans 8:9 NKJV
Which is also why Jesus ties His command to seek the Kingdom with another command... to seek His righteousness.
Because there is only ONE place to get that too.
In the Holy Spirit.
So,
We've got to seek the Kingdom of God.
We've got to seek HIS righteousness (not fix ours up).
Our righteousness is filthy rags says Isaiah (Isaiah 64:6) so we need a far 'better' righteousness to obey Jesus' daily request of us.
The 'better' righteousness is that of God in Christ Jesus.
And the Holy Spirit is the one who will clothe us with it (Just as the loving Father clothed the Prodigal son when he came home again).
Now let's quickly cover the last two questions and finish...
Answer 2: Why seek the Kingdom of God first?
Again,
Let's think simple.
Instead of thinking 'first'... think EARLY.
Early as in,
FIRST THING IN THE MORNING...
In rather the same way the Israelites went into the early morning mists to gather manna from heaven to feed them for the day in the terrible wilderness. Early then was critical actually, because by the time the sun came up, the manna mysteriously melted away.
(Does your peace melt if the sun arises with no prayer time?)
So, get up and seek God early in prayer,
Worship.
Adoration.
Before...
The world's rat race begins its engines and demands it pound of flesh. Before your phone starts pinging messages at you. Before you start worrying.
No.
Before all that yuk stuff…
Get into that secret, special place with your Father who sees in secret.
Then later (maybe even that day)…
He will reward you OPENLY.
How?
Simple,
"ALL these things shall be ADDED to YOU."
Matthew 6:33
When that happens our third question gets answered too...
Answer 3: Divine ACCELERATION takes place.
Mysteriously we discover it's as if our whole day, is prepared in advance. Wonderfully we seem to vault over obstacles almost effortlessly in God’s grace and power.
Answers come...
Provision arrives.
All because we seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness before anything else.
Or as the world says...
"Put first things... FIRST."
That way you’ll probably find you have a much better day.
The sense of peace and 'victory in advance' you will develop over time is profound and God will reward you openly when you meet Him first thing in the morning.
Till next time overcomer!
Dave.
